Beyond River Cottage follows the latest chaotic exploits of Hugh and his family, as their endeavors to achieve self-sufficiency finally come to fruition. Hugh has moved with his wife and two small children to the farm of their dreams. With a surplus of land for vegetables and more livestock than his family needs to live on, Hugh takes the opportunity to expand even further. His plan is to set up a culinary HQ, from which he can sell his excess produce and host seasonal dinners for paying customers. But when he finds himself the tenant of a collection of ramshackle barns, he wonders if this time he's bitten off more than he can chew.

Beyond River Cottage presents an eventful calendar year in the extraordinary life of the inimitable Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and his family, as Hugh grapples with the construction of a unique sewage system, caters for a wedding party of over 100 guests and welcomes several more lambs, 11 piglets and a swarm of honey bees .
